Glycerol

An odorless, colorless, syrupy liquid, prepared by the hydrolysis of fats and oils.

Used as a solvent, skin lotion, food preservative, etc., and in the manufacture of explosives, alkyd resins etc.

Widely distributed in all living organisms as a constituent of the glycerides, which yield glycerol when hydrolyzed.
